Remakes of classic shows and films are all the rage in Hollywood now. Ryan Gosling will lend his considerable talents to an action-heavy reimagining of the hit 1980s show The Fall Guy, taking the role of Hollywood stuntman Colt Seavers.
Back then, Lee Majors starred in the original, a show which followed the adventures of a stunt performer who moonlights as a bounty hunter when feature film work is slow. According to reports, this latest movie adaptation will drop Seavers’ bounty hunting escapades and instead focus on his life in the movie biz.
Limited details about the narrative are available, but it has been rumored that Seavers will be a washed-out, ageing stuntman struggling to find work in an ever-changing Hollywood. He gets a lucky break when he is hired to work for a star he used to double for.
However, when the star goes AWOL, Seavers is dragged into a deadly plot that sees him investigating a crime. Director David Leitch (of John Wick fame) said in a recent interview that Seavers will become “embroiled in some crazy drama outside of the movie business, and mayhem ensues”.
The Fall Guy has been mired in development hell for over a decade now. Originally, the plan was for Dwayne Johnson to take on the role of Seavers, but talks fell through.
Apart from Gosling, the film will also star Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Emily Blunt, Stephanie Hsu, and Winston Duke.
The Fall Guy is currently scheduled for a release date of March. 1 2024.
