With Ryan Gosling’s directorial debut, Lost River (previously titled How To Catch A Monster) receiving a spot at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival, some new details are starting to emerge about the highly anticipated film. In a recent interview with Empire, star Iain De Caestecker revealed a bit about the plot and what to expect.

“All I can really say is that it centers around a family. There’s my character, Bones, his mother and his younger brother. There’s also a girl next door played by Saoirse Ronan, called Rat,” said the actor. “It’s about this family living in a town called Lost River, which is perhaps a place that was once full of family and happiness and love, and is now this town that’s slowly descending into a place without any hope. This family is holding onto the foundations of their house and everything they think they need to hold onto.”

In addition to all that, we now have our first look at the film thanks to two newly released photos. The first one, seen above, shows Gosling on set. The other photo, seen below, features star Christina Hendricks with something around her face, though we’re not quite sure what it is.

Also starring Ben Mendohlson, Matt Smith, Barbara Steele and Eva Mendes, Lost River will premiere next month at Cannes. A theatrical release date has not been set yet, but we expect to hear of one shortly.
