We still have over a year until the release of Rush, Ron Howard’s Formula One drama, but today we get to see our first images from the film, courtesy of The Film Stage.
Chris Hemsworth and Daniel Brühl star as drivers James Hunt and Niki Lauda. While the images don’t give us a ton of information (they actually appear as if they could all be from the same scene), we do get a bit of insight into the look of the film.
In the cars the two exchange very suspicious, competitive glances, the type we would expect from the greatest rivals in the history of the sport. Out of the car, Hemsworth’s character appears to be quite the happy ladies man (surely helped, in no small part, by his luscious locks.)
Though this isn’t necessarily something that jumps out at me from the synopsis, screenwriter Peter Morgan also penned Hereafter and another Howard film, Frost/Nixon, which were both outstanding, well written films. His writing alone could be enough to make this a must-see.
For those who have yet to see it, the synopsis is included below:
The epic action-drama stars Chris Hemsworth (The Avengers) as the charismatic Englishman James Hunt and Daniel Brühl (Inglourious Basterds) as the disciplined Austrian perfectionist Niki Lauda, whose clashes on the Grand Prix racetrack epitomized the contrast between these two extraordinary characters, a distinction reflected in their private lives.
Set against the sexy and glamorous golden age of Formula 1 racing, Rush portrays the exhilarating true story of two of the greatest rivals the world has ever witnessed—handsome English playboy Hunt and his methodical, brilliant opponent, Lauda. Taking us into their personal lives on and off the track, Rush follows the two drivers as they push themselves to the breaking point of physical and psychological endurance, where there is no shortcut to victory and no margin for error. If you make one mistake, you die.
