Coming out of Infinity War, it soon became clear that those heroes left by the wayside – like, say, Captain America and Black Widow – will enjoy more screen time during Avengers 4.
Exactly what that bolstered role(s) will entail remains to be seen, of course, but if an alleged piece of concept art is to be believed, then it looks as though Joe and Anthony Russo’s conclusive sequel will mend the Stark-Steve friendship that was almost shattered into oblivion during Captain America: Civil War.
The finer details of Tony and Steve’s reconciliation is still up for question, though if you’ve been following Avengers 4 closely, you’ll know that Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans’ respective heroes were spotted together on set, reliving the Battle of New York from The Avengers.
So, yes, it’s nigh on certain that Iron Man and Cap will be fighting out of the same corner come 2019, as they look to topple Thanos once and for all. Also, Hawkeye!
Keep in mind that this concept art has come under intense scrutiny online, as some corners of the Marvel community believe it’s a fake – or, failing that, some unused artwork from the early days of Infinity War.
That’s debatable, mind you, as it just so happens to feature most, if not all of those heroes who fought during the Thanopocalypse and lived to tell the tale. And then there’s Hawkeye and Ant-Man, two heroes who were conveniently placed on house arrest just before Infinity War kicked off. No sign of the Wasp, though, so there’s a small chance Evangeline Lilly falls prey to Thanos’ snap of doom long before Avengers 4.
The answer to that particular question is likely stowed away within the fabric of Ant-Man and the Wasp, which promises to bring some much-needed levity to the MCU next month.
