RUMOR: Justice League Will Feature A Green Lantern

For a while there, it didn't sound like Warner Bros. was going to be doing much with the Green Lantern property. Though they announced Green Lantern Corps for 2020 a while back, there was really no news on it for quite some time, and given how poorly the 2011 film was received, perhaps that wasn't too surprising. But about a month ago the floodgates opened as we learned that David S. Goyer would be co-writing the film with Justin Rhodes.

For a while there, it didn’t sound like Warner Bros. was going to be doing much with the Green Lantern property. Though they announced Green Lantern Corps for 2020 a while back, there was really no news on it for quite some time, and given how poorly the 2011 film was received, perhaps that wasn’t too surprising. But about a month ago, the floodgates opened as we learned that David S. Goyer would be co-writing the film with Justin Rhodes.

Since then, we’ve also had a shortlist for Hal Jordan that included names like Armie Hammer, James Marsden, Bradley Cooper and even Ryan Reynolds. Not to mention a few actors have been voicing interest in the John Stewart role as well. So far, nothing’s been announced in terms of casting, but things are clearly heating up and if a new rumor is to be believed, we may be able to put a face to at least one of the Lanterns very soon.

Notorious tipster Umberto Gonzalez claims that Zack Snyder’s Justice League, which will be with us in November, will feature a Green Lantern. He wouldn’t say which one, but mentions that whoever it is has a “funny sounding name.” That’s all we’ve got to go on, and considering that the names of most of the Corps members are quite out there, it doesn’t really narrow things down a whole lot, aside from the fact that it probably won’t be Hal or John who show up.

With that in mind, this probably will amount to little more than a cameo to set up the 2020 film. Whether or not whoever appears in Justice League will end up playing a larger role in the DC Extended Universe is unknown at this point, so it’s hard to say if Warner Bros. will draft in a big name star for the part. Chances are it’ll be someone recognizable though, even if it’s not an A-lister like the actors that are being eyed for the roles of Jordan and Stewart.

For now, we’ll just have to wait and see what comes of this, but with Justice League on course for a release this November, we imagine that it won’t be too much longer before we find out more about Warner Bros.’ plans for Green Lantern Corps.
