The last scene of X-Men: The Last Stand left us thirsty for more, but it wasn’t until June 2011 that the mutants returned in X-Men: First Class. The film went over pretty well with fans and what everyone is questioning now is the possibility of a potential sequel.
Will we see our beloved heroes again? Or is this the last of them? Talks of a second film have been coming up fairly frequently but nothing has really been official yet. Today though, we bring you some hopeful news from one of the film’s cast members.
IGN caught up with actress Rose Byrne, who played CIA agent Moira MacTaggert in X-Men: First Class, and discussed the possibilities of a sequel.
We all had to sign on for three, I believe. Well, I did anyways. But as of right now I have no idea if they’re planning on doing another one. But that was the idea depending on how it all went. I suppose. We’ll see though. I loved working on it and loved working with the cast. I loved Matthew Vaughn. I also loved the style. The era and the fashion. And it was kind of kitsch-y and funny. It was a really fun and sophisticated superhero movie. I’m very proud of the film.
Although X-Men: First Class was very well received critically, it didn’t do so well at the box office. With only $145 million domestically, I think it’s safe to say that the studio had hoped for more. That being said, the film had tough competition surrounding it (Thor, Transformers: Dark of the Moon and Cars 2, to name a few).
Personally, I think Matthew Vaughn should give it another shot. The film was very well done and it practically begs for a sequel. They could do a lot with the story and I don’t see why they shouldn’t go ahead and make a franchise out of this. X-Men: First Class is certainly one of the better superhero films out there and to see the gang get back together for a sequel would be great.
We’ll keep you posted on anymore sequel news and in the meantime, you can look forward to X-Men: First Class on DVD and Blu-Ray, available September 9, 2011.
