Ahsoka Tano is probably the most famous Jedi never to have turned up in a proper Star Wars movie. First appearing in The Clone Wars TV spinoff, she’s already been brought back from the dead once, and an internet campaign hopes to repeat the trick and bring her into the live-action films. They’ve even decided who’s to play her, Rosario Dawson.
For her part, Dawson has enthusiastically embraced the campaign. In a recent appearance on Good Morning America, she said that she’d love to be in Star Wars and noted that she’s one of the few actors that the franchise’s official Twitter account follows – which has got to be a good sign, right? She concluded by asking the internet for help. After all, who wouldn’t want to be in Star Wars?
Hmmm… @starwars for @rosariodawson? YES! She talks about wanting to be in a future film.

It might at first seem like a long shot to get Ahsoka onto the big screen. After all, while a firm fan favourite, she’s still kinda niche and it might be difficult to introduce someone with as much baggage as she has (she’s the former Padawan of none other than Anakin Skywalker). Then again, Saw Gerrera managed to make the leap from The Clone Wars to Rogue One, so it can be done.
The campaign’s choice of Dawson seems largely predicated on her physical similarity to the character rather than any particular performance skills, but it seems like a pretty good fit to me. Fan artist BossLogic has even mocked up a (somewhat revealing) take on what Dawson might look like in the role, and you can check it out below.
It’s a convincing photo, but still, I just don’t see this one happening. Ahsoka has such a busy backstory that she’d distract as part of an ensemble and it seems a little unlikely that Disney would green-light a Star Wars spinoff with her as lead character. Still, stranger things have happened, so who knows?
