Deadline is reporting that Wally Pfister is close to casting the female lead for his upcoming directorial debut, Transcendence. He already has Johnny Depp lined up for the lead male role and with a plot summary that sounds very intriguing, we’re already marking this one as a project to keep your eye on. As for the female lead though, Pfister is apparently looking at Emily Blunt, Rooney Mara and Rebecca Hall.
While I am a big Mara fan, I could go with any of the three aforementioned actresses. They are all quite talented and could all make a good co-star for Depp. Blunt may be out of the running due to scheduling conflicts with All You Need Is Kill but should she be able to work it out, she’ll still be in contention for the part.
The basic plot of the film has Depp playing a “scientist whose brain is uploaded after his death into a supercomputer by female scientist Evelyn.” Sounds pretty out there, right? I, for one, am excited. Not only am I a big supporter of original sci-fi but this is Wally Pfister we’re talking about. The man has flown under Christopher Nolan’s wing for many years now, I’m sure he knows a thing or two about making a decent flick.
Over the next few weeks you can expect to hear more on Transcendence and when fresh news breaks, we’ll be sure to keep you posted.
