Back in June, production on Disney and Lucasfilm’s Han Solo spinoff ground to a halt after the abrupt firing of erstwhile directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller.
It’s an announcement that not only sent shockwaves through the Star Wars community, but also the industry itself, and the entire ordeal had echoes of those scathing rumors that plagued Rogue One: A Star Wars Story mid-way through filming. Bringing an end to the drama almost as quickly as it began, Disney then appointed the Oscar-winning Ron Howard in place of Lord and Miller and ever since, he’s been posting regular updates via his social media feeds.
From pics teasing the Kessel Run to a few shots of some of the new droids we’ll be meeting, the director has been keeping us right up to date and today, he’s delivered more. Taking to both Instagram and Twitter, Howard posted two new photos that came accompanied with the following caption: Shooting a scene about desperate and dangerous times in the Galaxy. The context of what’s going on here is unknown, but you can check out the new pics, along with a few that surfaced over the summer, down in the gallery below.
Flanked by Emilia Clarke, Woody Harrelson, Donald Glover, Thandie Newton and, crucially, not Michael K. Williams, whose character has seemingly been replaced by Avengers star Paul Bettany, Alden Ehrenreich will be introduced as our new Han Solo on May 25th, 2018.
One year later, J.J. Abrams and his team will bring about the end of Disney’s rebooted Star Wars trilogy with Episode IX, though with tentative plans in places for new movies all the way up until 2022, this is a franchise that shows no sign of slowing down – not now, and perhaps not ever.
