How’s this for a marketing strategy? If we weren’t already insanely excited for Anchorman: The Legend Continues, it was just announced that Ron Burgundy, San Diego’s top newscaster, will release a tell-all memoir a mere month before the film’s release.
Based on a report from Entertainment Weekly (via Cinema Blend), Burgundy will release his memoir Let Me Off At The Top! in print and digital formats on November 19, almost exactly a month before the release of Anchorman: The Legend Continues. The book will feature Burgundy’s thoughts on a variety of topics, as well as chronicling his rise to the top of the news media.
Ron Burgundy had this to say about his feelings towards the book:
I don’t know if it’s the greatest autobiography ever written. I’m too close to the work … I will tell you this much: the first time I sat down and read this thing…I cried like a goddamn baby, and you can take that to the bank!
We all know you’re a big deal, Ron.
Can I give some serious props to whoever came up with this idea? First, this is bound to be a funny book, period; it’s also a great tie-in for the film. Finally, it’s a unique and entertaining idea. We’re so used to trailers and trailers for trailers and TV spots and all the rest, it’s just awesome to actually have something different to be excited about.
Could this pave the way for future Anchorman installments? A TV show, based on Ron Burgundy’s memoir? A book tour?! Will the stories be classy? Will it reveal all about his relationship with Veronica Corningstone, or how he happened to take up the jazz flute? Will the book be bound in leather and smell of rich mahogany? Oh, please, let it be so!
I won’t go through all the other Anchorman jokes right here, because I’ve got to save something for December.
Anchorman: The Legend Continues, starring Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd and Christina Applegate, will hit theatres December 20.
