Edward Cullen may be the fantasy of millions of Twilight fans but Robert Pattinson thinks his filmic alter-ego is a “pussy”. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly for the mag’s Fall Movie Preview, Pattinson and co-star Kristen Stewart, aka Bella Swan, were asked to comment on their characters and Pattinson could hardly hold back the giggles at Edward’s expense.
“Look, there are a lot of moments when Edward sort of acts like a pussy”
Robert Pattinson then characterized Edward’s pussy-ness by discussing a scene from Breaking Dawn Pt 1.
“My wife is dying, I have completely f—ed up my life and hers, and Jacob’s like (to Bella) ‘Hey baby, you don’t look bad to me.’ And I’m just sitting there, like, with a bucket collecting her vomit. That really wouldn’t happen. I should have thrown the vomit at him.”
Pattinson then went on to deflate fantasies related to Breaking Dawn‘s much talked about sex scene in which Edward breaks the headboard, bites pillows and generally destroys the bed in his attempt to keep from sucking the blood out of his new wife Bella.
“I wanted to have it as a line so much ‘I bit through all the pillows. Every. Single. One.’ And then he’d start crying. By the way, that’s what he should be ashamed of in the morning. All those beautiful pillows! Egyptian cotton! ‘I ruined this bed!'”
Director Bill Condon has also talked down the erotic power of Edward and Bella’s big scene. In a July interview with MTV Condon characterized the sex scene as “fun”. Condon then told MTV that filming the scene was strange:
“Those things are always kind of strange. They get to be weirdly technical at points. (Robert and Kristen) they managed to put that aside and turn it into a very real moment.”
Condon went on to say that the Breaking Dawn sex scene will not push the boundaries of the film’s PG-13 rating. Pattinson’s tongue in cheek approach and Condon’s ‘fun’ assessment leads one to wonder if the Breaking Dawn sex scene will have the erotic power that Twi-hards have dreamt of since they first read Stephanie Meyer’s book.
We’ll find out if the scene holds up when The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Pt. 1 arrives in theaters and IMAX on November 17th 2011.
