Deadline is reporting that Ridley Scott‘s next film will in fact be Cormac McCarthy‘s screenplay, The Counselor. The news comes just after it was announced that the Blade Runner sequel was still a ways off with producers still trying to figure out the basis of the story.
Also being reported is that Prometheus star Michael Fassbender is talking to Scott about playing the lead role in The Counselor and though no formal offer has been made, there is a “high likelihood ” that Fassbender will in fact lead the film.
For those unfamiliar with the project, the film will follow “a respected lawyer who thinks he can dip a toe in to the drug business without getting sucked down. It is a bad decision and he tries his best to survive it and get out of a desperate situation.”
The start date for shooting is May 1st, which fits into Fassbender’s schedule since as of now, he is only committed to filming Steve McQueen‘s 12 Years A Slave, which will shoot this summer.
With a start date just around the corner, we can expect casting announcements very soon. We’ll keep you posted when we hear more.
