Though his reign as the King of the North on HBO’s Game of Thrones came to a rather brutal end, don’t fear for Richard Madden. The role launched him to stardom, and his upcoming schedule indicates that we won’t be missing him on our screens for too long. After playing Prince Charming in the upcoming Cinderella adaptation, Madden is now set to showcase his action hero chops in thriller Bastille Day.
According to Variety, Idris Elba stars as a rogue U.S. CIA operative who is tasked with interrogating and eventually making a young American con-artist “disappear” in order to avoid embarrassment to the U.S. government after the American becomes the prime suspect in an attack on the Paris metro. When the attacks continue, however, the operative realizes the young American is innocent but may also be invaluable in locating the person actually behind all the chaos.
It’s expected that Madden will play the American suspect. Blue is the Warmest Color breakout Adèle Exarchopoulos is attached as well, though the nature of her part is being kept under wraps for the time being.
The terrific cast on board for Bastille Day is definitely cause for excitement, and that The Woman in Black helmer James Watkins is behind the camera should also help to distinguish the thriller from other standard genre fare.
No specific U.S. release date has been announced, but we can expect to be celebrating Bastille Day sometime in the summer of 2016.
