Rebecca Ferguson was one of the highlights of Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, so when it was announced that her, Lea Seydoux and Abbey Lee were on the shortlist to play the female lead in Fox’s X-Men spinoff, Gambit, many fans hoped to see the Swedish actress land the role. Unfortunately, that’s not going to happen, as Ferguson has taken herself out of the running to star in another movie.
According to Deadline, she’ll join Emily Blunt in the Tate Taylor-directed adaptation of Paula Hawkins’ novel The Girl On The Train, playing a character named Anna. So, unless we hear of anyone else emerging as a contender, we can assume that it’ll be either Lea Seydoux (Spectre, Blue is the Warmest Color), or Abbey Lee (Mad Max: Fury Road) that will end up playing the daughter of the leader of the New Orleans Assassins’ Guild, Bella Donna Boudreaux.
Gambit is set to begin production in October with Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of The Apes) at the helm, and is scheduled to open in theaters on October 7, 2016. When we hear more on who the role of Bella goes to, we’ll be sure to let you know.
