Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to arrive in a couple of years’ time, with Benedict Cumberbatch’s Stephen Strange confirmed to be teaming up with Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch to traverse alternate dimensions. Fans have been wondering, though, will Rachel McAdams be brought back for the sequel, after she played the good doctor’s girlfriend Christine Palmer in the 2016 origins movie?
We Got This Covered has heard that the answer to this is a resounding yes. Multiple sources – the same ones who revealed that an Aladdin sequel is in development, and that Ewan McGregor is reprising his role as Obi-Wan, both of which were confirmed this week – have informed us that McAdams is set to return for the film. Of course, things could change as the script and the story are continually developed before shooting, but as of now, we’ve been told that Dr. Palmer is definitely in Multiverse of Madness.
It’s previously been theorized that the sequel could introduce Clea into the MCU, based on a brief but intriguing comment made by Kevin Feige that Wanda Maximoff wouldn’t be the only sorceress in the movie. As Clea is Strange’s major love interest in the comics, we imagined this would mean McAdams would get the Jane Foster in Thor: Ragnarok treatment and be written out. But it would appear that either Clea isn’t in the picture just yet or else there’s room for both characters.
In any case, Multiverse of Madness seems set to be a packed movie, as it’s looking more and more likely that Namor will finally make a splash on the big screen in Phase 4 and this film will serve as his debut. After all, a casting call for an upcoming MCU flick sure sounds a lot like the Sub-Mariner, but at the same time, our sources have also said Marvel plans to use him in Black Panther 2 instead, so who knows?
What we do know is that Chiwetel Ejiofor will be back in a supporting antagonistic capacity as Baron Mordo, with Nightmare filling the role of main villain. Plot details still remain hazy, but with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness set to hit theaters on May 7th, 2021, we’ll hopefully learn more soon. Maybe even at D23 next weekend? Stay tuned.
