Doctor Strange has already recruited a thrilling trio of actors in Benedict Cumberbatch (playing the titular superhero), Tilda Swinton (as a gender-swapped version of The Ancient One) and Chiwetel Ejiofor (as Baron Mordo), and now we’re hearing that another talented thesp is in the mix for the lead female role: True Detective‘s Rachel McAdams.
El Mayimbe, of Heroic Hollywood, originally reported the rumor, though he wasn’t able to confirm which character McAdams would be playing. If she’s a love interest, though, the smart money is on Clea or Morganna Blessing. If not, could Umar possibly factor into the pic?
[zerg]There’s reportedly an offer out to McAdams but no telling whether or not she’s even considering the role. Perhaps Comic-Con will bring further clarification – though with Marvel lacking any official presence, there’s no ticking clock here.
Doctor Strange will explore the more mystical side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, dabbling in sorcery and witchcraft as Strange, a prominent surgeon who loses use of his hands after a car accident, begins to accept his destiny as the Sorcerer Supreme. It’s a pivotal Marvel pic, given that Strange is reportedly one possibility to lead the Avengers in the aftermath of Infinity War, which is rumored to be one of the last outings for veteran heroes like Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man and Chris Evans’ Captain America.
Scott Derrickson (Deliver Us From Evil) is directing Doctor Strange from a script by Jon Spaihts. It’s scheduled to be released in theaters next year on November 4, 2016.
