Having earned an astonishing $328 million at the worldwide ticket booth – on a production budget of just $17 million, mind you – and a breathtaking 95% certified fresh score on the Tomatometer, the success of Paramount Pictures’ A Quiet Place predictably culminated in the form of a sequel announced earlier this year.
However, seeing as director and co-writer John Krasinski is about to enter production on season two of Amazon’s action series, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, and given the mammoth size success of his masterful silent horror film, there was talk that the studio would opt to fast-track the follow-up, thereby nixing any chance of it involving the instrumental talent.
Thankfully, according to producer Andrew Form, A Quiet Place 2 will not be moving forward without John Krasinski, nor will it be rushed. During a sit-down with Collider, in anticipation of the Blu-ray release of A Quiet Place on July 10th, Form confirmed that although “we’re just starting to talk about it…[Krasinski is] definitely involved” and “we’re not rushing anything.”
“Oh [Krasinski is] definitely involved. We’re lucky on this one. I’ve had movies where the studio says to you, ‘Here’s your date. Let’s go!’ and on this one, we’re not rushing anything, which is amazing. So we’re gonna take our time, we’re gonna figure out where to go, but there is no rush on it, and we’re just starting to talk about it. We’re figuring out what everyone’s involvement’s gonna be and what the actual next movie’s gonna be. The first one is so special to us that we really want to take our time with this and not rush anything.”
What with the film in the earliest stages of development, everything’s pretty non-committal at the moment. As such, Form couldn’t disclose how involved Krasinski will be in the sequel. Nonetheless, he did admit that because A Quiet Place is “such a special movie to us,” in order to make the next one work, “it has to be the right story.”
“It’s such a special movie to us, the experience and everything. It’s easy to rush these, and we’ve made movies in the past where we’ve rushed them through, and we’ve felt it, and we just don’t wanna do it on this one. We really don’t. We really just wanna take our time, and as long as it takes, it takes. It has to be the right story, just like the first one. It just has to be.”
Apart from the official announcement during Paramount Pictures’ presentation at CinemaCon earlier this year, speculation regarding A Quiet Place 2 has been, no pun intended, silent – save for Krasinski spitballing with Deadline. Should that change, though, we’ll be sure to let you know.
