The MCU is going through a bit of a rough patch at the moment, with all the criticism leveled against Phase Four projects, but Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania might serve as a turning point in the current narrative.
Quantumania will obviously bring back Paul Rudd’s Scott and Evangeline Lily’s Hope aka Wasp for an all-new adventure across the quantum realm, but we’re most excited to see the return of Kang the Conqueror following his MCU debut in Loki. Kang is supposed to be the big villain to succeed Thanos, which means Quantumania isn’t your typical Scott Lang solo outing centering around a forgettable villain and an even more unmemorable narrative.
That’s not everything the Ant-Man threequel has going for it, however, especially if early social media reactions are anything to go by. We’re only a week out from Quantumania‘s release in theaters, so reviews and early impressions are starting to pour in, and many of them seem to suggest the movie has a Star Wars vibe to it. You can check out most of the reactions on this Reddit thread, which is stirring up a lot of excitement among Marvel fans.
People are making multiple comparisons to Star Wars, which indicates that Quantumania is definitely leaning hard into the story’s sci-fi elements. And not just any sci-fi, but the kind that explicitly brings a galaxy far, far away to mind.
This is a powerful start to Phase Five, and fans are already here for it.
Besides the obvious, it seems that Jonathan Majors (Kang) totally steals the show, which was to be expected even considering his brief — but impactful — role in Loki.
Viewers can determine for themselves whether those Star Wars comparisons are accurate when Quantumania arrives in theaters on February 17.
