There are not many directors out there who would be willing to waive their fee just to give a character they were passionate about the big screen treatment, but apparently Lexi Alexander is one such individual.
During a Twitter chat with her followers, Alexander was asked what she thought about UFC fighter Ronda Rousey campaigning to play the lead role in Captain Marvel. Soon enough, the conversation had shifted to Kamala Khan, the comic-book heroine who picked up the Ms. Marvel mantle from future Captain Marvel Carol Danvers, with Alexander revealing that her love of the character is such that she would willingly helm a big screen vehicle for her free of charge.
Check out Alexander’s enthusiastic tweets below:
I don’t know. Love Ronda but have my heart set on Katee Sackhoff for this role… https://t.co/lK9aiVP5SD

I would seriously forego my director’s fee if someone would greenlight Kamala Khan (don’t tell my agents I tweeted that).

Alexander wouldn’t really make the movie for nothing, of course, and it’s also unlikely the studio would greenlight it, now that there’s Captain Marvel in the works with Carol Danvers taking up that mantle. To date, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has not seen a character hang up their costume and hand their superhero identity over to a fresh-faced replacement (unless you’re counting Hank Pym in Ant-Man, and you really shouldn’t given how much that film is already Scott Lang’s story), so it would be a stretch to see both Danvers and Khan at least in the very immediate future. Then again, Khan is very popular and Kevin Feige has promised more of a focus will be placed on female characters going forward… so you never know!
If that day ever came, would Lexi Alexander be the right choice? Punisher: War Zone didn’t go down too well with critics (or fans for that matter), but it does have something of a cult following, and the faithful have long wondered if and when Alexander will give a comic book property another go. For now, they’ll have to settle for her helming an upcoming episode of Arrow.
