Ridley Scott’s sort-of Alien prequel, Prometheus, landed with a divisive thunk back in 2012. Despite a mixed reception, both its detractors and fans are eager to see where exactly Scott will take the two remaining survivors for the sequel, Prometheus 2. More importantly, however, is what type of monsters can we expect?
The director has made no bones about the fact that there will be no xenomorphs in the film. Nope, not even one. As the tears began to crust up our sodden cheeks, Noomi Rapace referenced the notion of god and the devil taking over the villainous components. However, whether we’ll actually see a trident-wielding Satan going at it with a bearded white chap seems relegated to the rumour mill dustbin, for now at least.
Scott recently spoke out in an interview with The Australian about the nature of the beast. Whether or not he’s utterly serious, or just jesting, it’s hard to gauge. With a completed script in the bag, he mentioned his desire for “getting away from gods and dragons and shit. If I see one more dragon I’m going to shoot myself. Stop the dragons.” By dragon, he of course means, alien. He then goes on to describe the first xenomorph as “the definitive dragon and he’s a motherfucker. The alien’s real which is why it’s probably one of the scariest monsters in film history.” We can’t argue with him there.
