Just the other day, we brought you a fascinating behind the scenes look at Tom Hooper’s upcoming adaptation of Les Miserables, the musical by Claude-Michel Schonberg and Alain Boublil, itself based on the novel by Victor Hugo.
Today, thanks to First Showing, we have a new poster for the film, which may look familiar to fans of the musical as it is similar to the most well-known marketing image for it. It features Isabelle Allen as the young Cossette, which is an interesting choice given that the movie also stars such big names as Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Helena Bonham Carter, and Anne Hathaway, but again, the image is rather iconic for this musical.
As mentioned earlier, the film is directed by Tom Hooper, the Oscar-winning director of The King’s Speech, which already places a large amount of anticipation on it, particularly for awards season where it’s already being predicted as a major contender.
It seems like it’s been a long time since we’ve had a great musical (2007’s Sweeney Todd was the most recent), so hopefully this will turn out to be as good as it looks. With the amazing talent involved, there seems to be no way it could turn out otherwise.
Les Miserables opens in theaters on December 25th.
