Marcus Dunstan’s The Collector series is one of the most overlooked and under-appreciated franchises in the modern horror genre, so it was somewhat of a pleasant surprise when a third installment was officially announced earlier this month. Now, just a few weeks later, the upcoming threequel has an official title and a brand new poster.
Initially teased as The Coll3ctor, the film’s new one-sheet actually reveals a much cleaner title: The Collected. Not much else can be learned from the poster, but we do know that Dunston and his writing partner Patrick Melton have returned to write the script, which aims to start production this fall. The Collected will also bring back Josh Stewart and Emma Fitzpatrick as Arkin and Elena, their respective roles from the franchise’s previous movies.
Released in 2009, the original Collector film, which features a twisted killer who traps his victims in elaborate devices, was initially written off by critics as a cheap Saw knockoff. However, the movie made enough money to warrant a sequel, 2012’s The Collection, a wickedly funny and equally bloody follow-up that ended on a massive cliffhanger.
If you haven’t seen it, be wary of the spoilers that follow, as The Collected is expected to resolve that film’s surprise ending wherein Stewart’s character Arkin lures the killer into his own collection box. With that in mind, this upcoming movie’s title is a perfect fit for its story while simultaneously continuing the series’ characteristic nomenclature.
There’s no word yet on when we can expect to see The Collected in theaters, but tell us, are you excited to see a new addition to The Collector series? As always, let us know in the comments section down below.
