The first poster for 50/50 features Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen in a scene we have already partly seen in the trailer. The shot seen here both hints at the film’s theme and establishes its lightheartedness with Rogen’s awkward expression.
50/50 is a comedic drama about Adam (Gordon-Levitt), a 27 year old man who is diagnosed with cancer and told that he has a 50% chance to live. The film is written by the man it was inspired by, Will Reiser, who went through this same scenario himself.
Rogen plays the main character’s best friend Kyle, who supports him during his difficult time. As depicted in the poster, he’s by Adam’s side when he first has to shave his head.
For those who don’t know, the film was originally set to be called I’m With Cancer but was changed to 50/50 to prevent depressing people with the word “cancer.” It may not be as revealing as the previous title but I think it’s much better, at least from a marketing standpoint.
Gordon-Levitt and Rogen’s co-stars include a pretty stacked cast consisting of Anna Kendrick, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Anjelica Huston. The film will be releasing in the United States on September 30th and thus far, it has a very positive buzz surrounding it. Some early reviews have even thrown the word Oscar around in regards to the film. Is it really that great? I guess we’ll find out in a few months.
