A new poster has been released today for 300: Rise of an Empire, the follow up to Zack Snyder’s 300. Set for a March 7th, 2013 release, this one is still a long ways away but surprisingly, Warner Bros. plans to give us a trailer tomorrow, which will provide our first look at footage from the film.
Rodrigo Santoro returns as Xerxes and he’s joined by Sullivan Stapleton, Jamie Blackley, Lena Headey, David Wenham and Eva Green. Based on Frank Miller’s graphic novel, the story will follow “Greek general Themistokles as he attempts to unite all of Greece by leading the charge against Xerxes that will change the course of the war.”
Though Snyder isn’t behind the camera for this outing (Noam Murro has replaced him), 300: Rise of an Empire is said to use the same visual style as seen in the first film. Judging by photos released not too long ago, it does indeed look like Murro is trying to mimic what Snyder did visually in 300.
As for this new poster, it’s nothing special and it doesn’t reveal much but it’s a fine piece of artwork that will no doubt help to build hype for the film.
Personally, I loved 300, as I’m sure most people did, so I’m definitely looking forward to the follow up. It’s too bad that Snyder couldn’t return but I trust that Murro will deliver a worthy finished product that will no doubt excite in the same way as its predecessor.
