Sending the rumor mill into overdrive, New Mutants director Josh Boone has taken to Instagram to unveil what is potentially the super-charged lineup set to headline 20th Century Fox’s spinoff movie.
Still simmering in the bowels of pre-production, The Fault in Our Stars filmmaker posted a series of images, including one ensemble snap of Magik, Wolfsbane, Mirage, Cannonball, and Sunspot. It was followed by a pic dedicated to Warlock posing as an aeroplane.
[zergpaid]Of the alleged roster, Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams and relative newcomer Anya Taylor-Joy are purportedly linked with the roles of Wolfsbane and Magik (AKA Illya Rasputin), respectively. Fox has since debunked any speculation, though Williams did lend some credit to the reports, all the while revealing that she’s game to enlist for Boone’s mutant ensemble movie. Also rumored to make an appearance is Alexandra Shipp’s Storm, allowing the director’s offshoot to dovetail neatly with Fox’s expanding universe.
Bearing the caption ‘New Mutants‘ and New Mutants alone, here’s the squad snap in question via Boone’s Instagram account:
Given that X-Men: Apocalypse is looming large on the horizon, it’s unlikely we’ll hear anything official from Josh Boone’s mutants in training for quite some time – particularly when you factor in Fox’s alleged decision to pull out of San Diego Comic-Con amid piracy concerns.
For now, Boone’s New Mutants will seemingly assemble Magik, Wolfsbane, Mirage, Cannonball, Sunspot and Warlock, along with a Storm and possibly a Professor X cameo thrown in for good measure.
