Let’s all be honest for a moment: does anyone really want a Pirates of the Caribbean 5? I mean, On Stranger Tides was just OK – I liked Penelope Cruz, but I don’t remember much else about it – but it hardly shivered the timbers, now did it? Not that anyone is asking us, though, as producer Jerry Bruckheimer is going to right ahead with Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales no matter what we say or do, so we might as well embrace it.
While filming has yet to begin on the latest franchise installment that featured the invigoration of Johnny Depp’s career, there are a few new additions to the star-heavy cast. Joining Depp and Javier Bardem are Adam Brown, Delroy Atkinson and Danny Kirane. You might not automatically recognize any of those names, but a brief search on Google informs us that Brown just recently appeared as Ori in The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. Danny Kirane’s most recent film credit is Automata, the Antonio Banderas film that I completely forgot about. So, while these are hardly big names, they might be familiar faces.
Very little is yet known about Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, except that our favorite pirate Captain Jack Sparrow is back (again) to swagger his way through some more battles on the high seas. There have been rumors that Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) will make another appearance as well, though that is not yet confirmed. The film is being directed by Kon Tiki directors Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg, so at least we can expect some good water action.
We will continue to keep our ears to the ground on further details for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. The film is currently scheduled for a July 2017 release date.
