One glance at the Marvel slate will tell you that Ant-Man and the Wasp finds itself sandwiched between Infinity War and the as-yet-untitled Avengers 4.
The only other MCU film pencilled in for that same window is the long-in-development Captain Marvel solo movie, though Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck needn’t worry too much about continuity as the vast majority of their spinoff is set to unravel in the 1990s, when Carol Danvers crosses paths with the villainousĀ Skrulls.
For Ant-Man and the Wasp, it’s a totally different story. The official synopsis states that Peyton Reed’s diminutive sequel takes place “in the aftermath of Captain America: Civil War,” when Scott Lang is on the run once again. By that logic, that leads us to believe that Ant-Man 2 won’t reference Infinity War whatsoever, and will instead take place right around the same time as Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Whatever the case, filming continues on the sequel’s Atlanta set, and a candid new pic of Evangeline Lilly has arrived to prove it. First spotted by the eagle-eyed users of Reddit, if nothing else, this still heralds an up-close look at Lilly’s costume, as we know her Hope van Dyne will be suiting up come 2018. And not a moment too soon.
Also starringĀ Laurence Fishburne (John Wick: Chapter 2) and Tomb Raider‘s duo Walton Goggins and Hannah John-Kamen, production on Ant-Man and the Wasp will likely continue until the end of this month, before Peyton Reed and Co. begin preparing for a lengthy spell in post-production. Those miniature visual effects aren’t going to render themselves, you know.
As such, we’ll be keeping a close eye on Marvel’s 2018 sequel over the coming weeks, with July 6th, 2018 being the date for your diaries. Infinity War, meanwhile, is expected to drop on May 4th.
