We regret to inform you that Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead in his Manhattan apartment this morning. The actor, who was 46 years old, died of an apparent drug overdose. Sources say he was found “in the bathroom with a hypodermic needle still in his arm.” Though Hoffman appeared to be doing fine over the last couple of months, we do know that he had been in rehab recently and has been struggling with addiction for some time now.

A New York native, Hoffman was a well-respected actor and one of the finest of our generation. He won an Academy Award for his stunning performance in Capote and did equally riveting work in films like The Master, Doubt and The Ides of March. Truthfully, he was brilliant in just about every role he ever played and was an absolutely wonderful actor who was very passionate about his work.

Hoffman most recently appeared in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and was in attendance at Sundance last month to promote two of his upcoming films: God’s Pocket and A Most Wanted Man.

This is truly a tragic loss and we will miss Philip Seymour Hoffman greatly. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this time.
