Comedy and horror’s lines so often blur, with it almost no surprise a comedian could easily shift across to the more gory end of town, but it’s utterly shocking to see Pete Davidson of all people headline something in the horror genre.

A24’s 2022 hot streak has been utterly incredible to watch, with consistent hits like Men and then Bodies Bodies Bodies with Davidson. Somehow turning Davidson into a scream king, it’s picked up impressive plaudits from viewers who are praising it for its subversive take on the genre.

Immensely violent, shocking, and amusing as hell, it’s finally getting proper love on Reddit’s home of horror.

Like any good slasher movie, it starts with a bunch of dumb drunk teenagers doing drugs and attempting stupid stunts. Thanks to a home-brewed game called “Bodies Bodies Bodies”, everything turns on its head as a murder mystery roleplaying game becomes a cruel reality.

Davidson isn’t the only comedy star to feature, with Borat 2‘s breakout star Maria Bakalova also playing a crucial role in a film you’ll utterly fail to predict. Other big names include a hilarious extended cameo from Lee Pace, Amandla Stenberg, Rachel Sennott, and former Vine star Conner O’Malley. But really, Davidson is excellent as a supremely manic and deranged party addict.

One of Bodies x3‘s greatest strengths is just how irreverent it treats itself. Unlike a lot of slasher films and a lot of modern horrors, it has no qualms just enjoying its own ambiance and its actors clearly riffing. Incredibly smartly written, it’s one of the freshest in the genre for years.

If you’re listening Hollywood, give Rachel Sennott more roles. She is excellent in this and steals almost every scene she’s in. Hell, even get her to just helm a sequel with just her.

Bodies Bodies Bodies is available to rent from Apple TV and Amazon Prime Video.
