With the latest draft for Matt Reeves’ The Batman reportedly finished late last year, it sounds like things are finally starting to fall into place for the Caped Crusader’s first solo outing in the DCEU. And while story details remain vague, it seems we now know of one at least one major villain that the upcoming flick is bringing into the saga.
Sources close to We Got This Covered have revealed that Oswald Cobblepot, aka the Penguin, will be one of the main antagonists in the Dark Knight’s next feature. The character’s inclusion was a popular rumor that got some heavy traction last year, and even drew the attention of celebrities like Josh Gad, who practically ran his own social media campaign in a bid to land the part. Though it remains to be seen who’ll be wearing the iconic top hat for the role, it’s said that Reeves specifically requested for the Penguin not to show up in the upcoming Birds of Prey, allowing the character to be saved for an encounter with Bruce Wayne.
Incidentally, there was a rumor making the rounds last month that Warner Bros. might be eyeing Jonah Hill for the part after Reeves and Harley Quinn actress Margot Robbie each followed him on social media in a short space of time. Of course, given the very thin basis for this speculation, the question of who’s to play Bruce’s next foe remains very much up in the air.
Speaking of casting, a recent report alleged that we should learn who’s replacing Ben Affleck as the Caped Crusader by the end of the year, and if what we hear is true about shooting for The Batman beginning this November, then we can hopefully expect a few more details to come our way in the next few months.
