Whether you loved or loathed Kevin James’ bumbling, titular character in the 2009 surprise hit, the unlikeliest of unlikely heroes is back for another action-packed spiel in Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2.
Set six years after the events of the original, Mall Cop 2 will pick up at a time when Blart has reluctantly agreed to kick back and spend time with his family. But as the trailer suggests, a hero is never off duty. So, when he stumbles upon a dangerous threat during his time at a Security Guard Expo in Las Vegas, it’s up to him to grab the bull by the horns and foil the criminals’ plan before it takes into effect.
Aping Oceans 11 with its large-scale casino heist set-up, the jury is still out on whether Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 can emulate the surprising box office success of its predecessor. Nevertheless, we’re just holding out hope that the sequel doesn’t stoop to the low, low levels of Kevin James’ recent comedy follow-up Grown Ups 2.
Molly Shannon, Neal McDonough, and D.B. Woodside will join Kevin James when Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 will report for duty on April 17, 2014.
In this sequel, in which Kevin James reprises the role of Paul Blart, the security guard is headed to Las Vegas to attend a Security Guard Expo with his teenage daughter Maya (Raini Rodriguez) before she departs for college. While at the convention, he inadvertently discovers a heist – and it’s up to Blart to apprehend the criminals. Also starring Molly Shannon, David Henrie, Eduardo Verastegui, Nicholas Turturro, Gary Valentine and Neal McDonough, Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 is directed by Andy Fickman and features a screenplay by James and Nick Bakay.
