“It’s coming to an end,” proclaims the official logline for Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension, the sixth and supposedly final installment in Blumhouse’s low-budget, astronomically profitable horror franchise.
Remaining in familiar territory for the ultimate chapter, The Ghost Dimension is to be helmed by Gregory Plotkin, telling the story of a young family who become increasingly concerned about their daughter’s erratic behaviour.
If history has taught us anything, Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension will take full advantage of its fortuitous festive release window and pull in a respectable box office haul when it opens next week. However, The Wrap notes that due to Paramount’s new deal with AMC Theatres and Cineplex Entertainment, major theater chains are refusing to host the film, citing a controversial distribution model as the primary cause. This could – and likely will – have an adverse effect on the potential impact of the horror sequel, with forecasts now predicting it to open to a lower box office than the previous installment, The Marked Ones.
Gregory Plotkin will bring the curtain down on Blumhouse’s lucrative found footage series with Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension on October 23. But with the recent cut in theaters hosting the film, will the franchise go out on a whimper?
