Coming Soon reports that Paranormal Activity 4 will be digitally re-mastered into IMAX and released in that format to approximately 300 theaters in the U.S. and Canada.
For those not keeping count at home, this is the fourth found-footage installment in Paramount’s supernatural thriller franchise. In the last film we got to see the beginning of Katie’s encounter with the apparition and this film returns to the present to catch us up with Katie and Hunter.
We’re also introduced to a new girl named Alice, who has been experiencing some strange happenings and documenting them, providing the footage we’re shown. If you’ve yet to see the most recent trailer, be sure to check it out.
I think the move to IMAX is a pretty awesome idea. These films are exponentially scarier on the big screen than they are at home. Just picture how intense this has the potential to be in an immersive IMAX format.
I thought the third film was the scariest of the series, so I already had high hopes that directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman weren’t easing off for this film. If it lives up to my expectations, and the IMAX delivers a completely immersive experience, this has the potential to be one of the scariest films of the year.
Paranormal Activity 4 hits theaters October 18.
