Bright spots have been few and far between so far throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe‘s Multiverse Saga, which has seen the franchise come under the sort of fire never experienced before during its incredibly lucrative 15-year existence.
However, unless you’re one of the many people who suddenly decided to turn on him the moment the movie hit Disney Plus, Tenoch Huerta’s Namor can be deemed an unqualified triumph. Taking a dude in Speedos who lives underwater and has tiny little wings on his ankles – only to transform him into a formidable antagonist that’s entirely justified in his actions – is no easy task, but Black Panther: Wakanda Forever pulled it off with aplomb.
We’ll definitely be seeing Namor again, but the real question is when. Not many upcoming MCU projects lend themselves to his involvement, with the obvious exceptions of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and sequel Secret Wars. Speaking to The Wrap, Huerta admitted that he’s hoping to hop back on the superhero train sooner rather than later when asked if membership of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes was on the agenda.
“Honestly, I don’t know. I hope so. Please tell the people to send tweets and letters to Marvel because I would love to appear in the next movie, but I don’t really know. I was talking with with Gael Garcia Bernal and he said, ‘Something that is funny with Marvel, everybody around knows everything about your character except you.’ And that happened to me!”
If The Kang Dynasty is seeking to outdo both Infinity War and Endgame – a task many believe it’ll be ill-equipped for given what we’ve seen so far – then the Avengers are going to need all the help they can get, so it wouldn’t be difficult to write Namor into the screenplay, especially when scribe Jeff Loveness is a noted fan.
