Andor is currently filming its hotly anticipated second season in the U.K. and we can’t wait to see it in 2024. Like the first season, this will consist of twelve episodes that’ll take us right up to where we first met Cassian back in Rogue One. The events of that movie conclude his story in an explosive fashion, so what’s next?
Well, Andor was so successful that fans are looking back to Rogue One to see which other characters could be expanded upon, and they’ve picked a fine pair:
These are Baze Malbus and Chirrut Îmwe, as played by Jiang Wen and Donnie Yen. Chirrut in particular is almost unique in Star Wars. He’s a blind member of the Guardian of the Whills, so associated with the Force but neither Jedi nor Sith. Though Chirrut is not technically Force-sensitive, he has total faith in its will and allows it to guide his actions, even when they appear to be suicidal. Baze is a former assassin turned Chirrut’s protector, with the pair meeting during missions for the early Rebel Alliance.
The duo also starred in the 2017 novel and manga Guardians of the Whills by Greg Rucka. This was set before the events of Rogue One and showed them working on missions for Saw Gerrera. There’s an outside chance they may appear in Andor season two as the timelines match up, though as filming is underway and we’ve had no casting announcements, the chances are slim.
We’d love to see them return, as Chirrut has one of the most interesting perspectives on the Force seen in live-action. Let’s hope someone at Disney and Lucasfilm is paying attention.
