Deadline is reporting that Olivia Wilde will be joining Ron Howard‘s Rush. The story follows the friendship between Formula 1 drivers Niki Lauda and James Hunt and the rivalry that grew between the two.
The film will star Inglourious Basterds star Daniel Brühl as Lauda, James Hunt will be played by Thor star Chris Hemsworth and Alexandra Maria Lara will play Lauda’s wife.
Olivia Wilde has signed on to play 1970’s supermodel Suzy Miller, who was the wife of James Hunt. The relationship between Miller and Hunt, however, became rather complicated when she fell in love with a close friend of Hunt’s, Richard Burton.
Even more interesting perhaps, was that Hunt famously “negotiated a transfer of assets” which saw Burton paying the $1 million dollar divorce settlment that Hunt owed Miller, in exchange for the divorce. Not long after, Burton and Miller married.
In further Rush news, Howard is courting his A Beautiful Mind star Russell Crowe to take on the small role of Burton. Crowe has been taking on supporting roles lately (Man Of Steel) so it will be no surprise if we see him popping up in Rush.
Rush is due to start filming within the next few months for a late 2012 release.
