Up until now Steven Soderbergh‘s male stripper flick Magic Mike has been completely male dominated.
Some might think quite rightly considering the subject matter but in my opinion, it would be nice to have some form of femininity in there. So far the film has been pretty low on actresses (with the exception of Riley Keough), but now Olivia Munn is in negotiations to join the film in the role as leading man Channing Tatum‘s girlfriend Amber.
The film tells the story of the titular male dancer Mike (played by Tatum) and his relationship with an up and coming dancer protege The Kid, who will be played by Alex Pettyfer. Matthew McConaughey, True Blood‘s Joe Mangianello and Matt Bomer will all play male strippers. The script has been written by Reid Carolin but is based very much on the experience Tatum had himself as a stripper during his teenage years.
The film along with the Liberace biopic and The Man From UNCLE remake, will be one of Steven Soderbergh‘s last projects as director as he is due to retire from filmmaking to follow another career.
Olivia Munn is perhaps best known from her role as a correspondent on The Daily Show and will also be seen soon in the Aaron Sorkin-HBO pilot More As This Story Develops.
