It’s that time of year where the most prestigious film festival of the year, Cannes, announces its film line up and to be honest, in the Competition selection and the Un Certain Regard section there are no surprises. Only difference this year is there appears to be a lot more English language movies in the Competition, especially those who will be campaigning for the Palme d’Or. In there we have the previously announced The Tree of Life from Terrence Malick, Lars von Trier‘s Melancholia, Lynne Ramsey‘s new film We Need To Talk About Kevin and most interestingly Nicolas Winding Refn is there with his film Drive, which for all intents and purposes is not something you expect at Cannes.
Also of interest are the festival favourites. Pedro Almodovar‘s new film The Skin I Live In, which looks, like the rest of his work, completely bananas. As well as that we have the Dardenne brothers with their new film Boy With a Bike and Paolo Sorrentino‘s This Must Be The Place. Check back on May 11th when we will be bringing you plenty of coverage on the 64th Cannes Film Festival, and read the selections for the films playing in Competition and Out of Competition films below. You can read the entire press release here.
