Zack Snyder may be remixing many of the tropes synonymous with the Caped Crusader in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, be it Ben Affleck’s costume or the Batmobile, but one element that always remained a fixture of Warner’s new interpretation of Gotham’s vigilante is the Batcave.
Bruce Wayne’s base of operations arguably didn’t feature too heavily in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, and was mainly used as a symbol for Bruce’s fall into the depths of fear before the eventual rise. For Dawn of Justice, however, we’re being introduced to a more grizzled and older version of Batman, residing over a deep arsenal of weapons and bleeding-edge tech.
[zergpaid]To give fans an early taste of that underground lair, Entertainment Weekly has shared a pair of new stills for Snyder’s superhero showdown. They are, essentially, the official versions of those that hit the interwebs only yesterday, though today’s official batch comes packing an tease from Affleck himself.
When quizzed about the role of Batman among such a superpowered roster, the actor explained how the World’s Greatest Detective can be viewed as a moral focal point of the movie, representing the mere mortal caught amidst a whirlwind of capes, powerful tridents and deities.
“[Batman] represents human beings, mortal men,” Affleck tells the outlet. “In a world of Flashes and Aquamen and Supermen, there needs to be that guy. It’s interesting that he became the leader of the Justice League in the books — I’m not sure how that’ll play out here — but his humanity is also an asset.”
Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice opens on March 25, 2016.
