It’s been a busy day for the Lionsgate camp, what with the reveal of the studio’s sharp-suited and rebooted Power Rangers, offering a peek at the futuristic armor featured in Dean Israelite’s franchise overhaul. That media dump continues now with a new trailer for crime caper sequel Now You See Me 2.
In it, we see the Four Horsemen – not to be confused with 20th Century Fox’s harbingers of death – stage the world’s greatest magic trick, as they come out of their self-imposed exile with style and grace. There’s also the arrival of the film’s first clip, narrated by the instantly recognizable tones of Morgan Freeman.
Indeed, Freeman is one of the many returning faces to Jon M. Chu’s Now You See Me 2, with Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco and Lizzy Caplan on board as those elusive and frankly mesmerizing Four Horsemen – the latter of which supplants Isla Fisher from the original flick – alongside Mark Ruffalo, Michael Caine and newcomer Jay Chou. Daniel Radcliffe, meanwhile, assumes the role of chief antagonist Walter Mabry, a brilliant magic prodigy that gives even the Horsemen a run for their money.
Now You See Me 2 is primed to put a spell on moviegoers come June 10. The show doesn’t stop there, however, now that Lionsgate has already carved out plans for a direct sequel with Jon M. Chu set to return in the director’s chair.
The Four Horsemen return for a second mind-bending adventure, elevating the limits of stage illusion to new heights and taking them around the globe. One year after outwitting the FBI and winning the public’s adulation with their Robin Hood-style magic spectacles, the illusionists resurface for a comeback performance in hopes of exposing the unethical practices of a tech magnate. The man behind their vanishing act is none other than Walter Mabry, a tech prodigy who threatens the Horsemen into pulling off their most impossible heist yet. Their only hope is to perform one last unprecedented stunt to clear their names and reveal the mastermind behind it all.
