It seemed too good to be true when Noomi Rapace was floated around for the co-starring role in Animal Rescue, a film set to star Tom Hardy. Rapace and Hardy? Sounds like a match made in heaven, right? Up until now the actress was all but confirmed and today, we finally have word that Rapace has gone ahead and accepted the role, making dreams of moviegoers everywhere come true.
Based on a short story by Dennis Lehane (the guy who wrote Mystic River and Gone Baby Gone), the film will be helmed by Bullhead director Michael Roskam and will revolve around a “lonely New York bartender (Hardy), caught in the midst of a bad heist and a killing, who rescues a puppy from a garbage can and becomes the target of the dog’s abusive and mentally unstable former owner.” Rapace will play Nadia, the female lead who “crosses paths with the bartender when he finds a wounded puppy outside her home.”
If you’re still not familiar with Noomi Rapace, you really should be at this point. After exploding onto the scene with the Swedish version of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, she has quickly become one of Hollywood’s most in demand actresses. She recently starred in Prometheus and before that Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. Her name is also being floated around for some very high-profile projects. She’s one of the brightest upcoming talents in the industry and pairing her with Hardy is something that excites us greatly.
Production on Animal Rescue will get underway in New York this Spring, after which it will likely make its rounds on the festival circuit. We’ll keep you posted when we hear more.
