You can go ahead and add Freddy Krueger’s name to the ever-growing list of horror icons poised for a return.
With Michael Myers and John Kramer (AKA the Jigsaw Killer) bound for the silver screen once more – Halloween in 2018; Jigsaw late next month – Warner Bros. and New Line are plotting a new incarnation of A Nightmare On Elm Street, with David Leslie Johnson (The Conjuring 2) on script duties.
Aside from some surprising story trinkets that emerged last month, both studios have maintained a radio silence when it comes to the mooted reboot, though if the Powers That Be were to place Robert Englund in control of casting, the series stalwart would name Kevin Bacon as a potential candidate to play the mutilated Freddy.
Word comes by way of Cinema Blend, after the outlet caught up with Englund to discuss his involvement in Nightworld, a psychological thriller currently incubating in post. On the topic of A Nightmare On Elm Street, though, Englund has one actor in mind.
Per Cinema Blend, here’s what he had to say:
Well the gossip I’ve heard, and I don’t know how valid this is, but there has been some talk about using, or perhaps he’s been approached, Kevin Bacon. Yeah. I think that would be great. He’s in one of my favorite little horror movies, Stir of Echoes, and you should check it out if you haven’t seen in. And I just think Kevin’s the right size. I think he respects horror movies. He doesn’t make fun of them. I think it would be real interesting.
A Nightmare on Elm Street is headed back to the silver screen…eventually. But assuming Robert Englund is onto something with his casting choice, what are your thoughts about the possibility of Kevin Bacon stepping back into the horror genre to play a new, modernized version of Freddy Krueger?
