Variety is reporting that Nicole Kidman has beat off some of Hollywood biggest actresses to play Grace Kelly. Kidman is reportedly negotiating a deal to star as the princess of Monaco in La Vie En Rose director Olivier Dahan‘s new film Grace Of Monaco.
The project was announced last year with the script by Arash Amel making it onto this year’s Black List. The film will be produced by Pierre-Ange Le Pogam and the film’s $15 million dollar budget will be fully financed by Le Pogam.
The film will follow “a six month period in 1962 when the city-state got into a heated dispute with France, which grew tired of the petite principality being a tax haven. Kelly, still relatively new in her role as princess, manoeuvred behind the scenes to save Monaco from a coup.”
Personally, I am praying this deal doesn’t go through. I don’t know why January Jones isn’t playing this role, she looks exactly like Kelly and has done some impressive work on AMC’s Mad Men. To be honest, I’d rather see anyone but Kidman in this role, I can’t see her as Grace Kelly.
No official start date has been announced yet but the film is expected to get underway sometime this year. We will bring you more information on the project as it arises.
