You’ve heard of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Sony’s fledging SUMC (real name: the Sony Universe of Marvel Characters), but what about Warner’s Wizarding World?
It is, in essence, the catch-all term for both Harry Potter and the ongoing Fantastic Beasts franchise, which is now on the verge of releasing its second installment, The Crimes of Grindelwald, upon wizards and muggles alike.
Much like its fantastical predecessor, The Crimes of Grindelwald is a prequel to the core Potter series, and whisks viewers off to 1920s Paris, where the young Newt Scamander is on a mission from Dumbledore – yes, the Dumbledore. Suffice it to say, between Dumbledore’s involvement and the upcoming trip to Hogwarts, Fantastic Beasts 2 is deeply embedded within the Harry Potter lore. And above, you’ll see that the latest featurette from Warner Bros. helps outline the connective tissue joining one franchise and the other.
There’s nothing quite like a dose of movie magic – particularly if it originates from within the wider Wizarding World. What’s more, with another three Fantastic Beasts movies in the pipeline, there are still many more adventures to look forward to between now and 2025.
Don’t take that timeline as gospel, mind you, as Warner Bros. may choose to switch things up once The Crimes of Grindelwald makes its debut. Besides, we’ve long heard that Eddie Redmayne’s Newt Scamander will be phased out of the prequel saga in favor of the young Dumbledore, which tells us that surely – surely – Warner plans to explore his tragic relationship with Gellert Grindelwald, the original dark lord.
Audiences will bear witness to the many Crimes of Grindelwald once Fantastic Beasts 2 begins playing worldwide next Friday, November 16th. Wands at the ready.
