Contrary to an earlier report, we seemingly now have some firm confirmation that the new trailer for Sony and Ruben Fleischer’s Venom will not be preceding Mission: Impossible – Fallout.
On the closing day of San Diego Comic-Con, a verified Twitter account associated with the film alluded to the fact that the new Venom footage shown within Hall H last Friday – which felt more like a sizzle reel than a teaser, if we’re being honest – would be arriving sometime this week. Unfortunately, however, as heard through Trailer Track, this is simply not the case.
While announcing the classification for a brand new Venom preview, Consumer Protection BC divulged that the teaser will run for 2 minutes and 31 seconds and, given the date of the classification, Trailer Track expects the latest look to arrive sometime “in the next few weeks.” So, it seems you’re just going to have to wait a little bit longer to see the sinister symbiote literally bite someone’s head off.
At the moment, it’s unknown if the new trailer will be identical to the footage shown at SDCC. Regardless, taking into account the gruesome nature of the snippet in question, this new sneak peak at Venom should give us a better look at the “darker, more violent, more vicious Marvel character” which drew director Ruben Fleischer to the project in the first place.
In the meantime, while we wait for this elusive, grisly preview, just yesterday Fleischer hinted at a post-credits scene which may or may not set up a sequel when Venom slithers into theaters on October 5th later this year. At which point, we might finally be getting the proper adaptation of down-on-his-luck reporter Eddie Brock and the goopy symbiote not of this world.
