In the first trailer for Spider-Man: Homecoming, Iron Man could be seen sporting the same armour he wore in last year’s Captain America: Civil War. Whether that was a placeholder or just something specifically chosen for those scenes is unclear, but an action figure has since revealed that Tony Stark will also boast a brand new suit which bears a striking resemblance to the Ultimate line of Marvel comic books. Now, another set of toys has been revealed which offers up a fresh look at the armour along with some Spider-Man: Homecoming promotional artwork of the wall-crawler, Iron Man and the Vulture, all of whom we’ll no doubt see plenty more of over the next few months.
Iron Man getting a new suit for each of his respective big screen appearances has become commonplace, mostly because it means Marvel can sell a whole new batch of action figures and merchandise based on his updated look. The fact that the studio is taking inspiration from the Ultimate line is a nice touch, though, and this is undoubtedly one of the most striking designs we’ve seen for the character to date.
How much of a role Iron Man will actually play in Spider-Man: Homecoming remains to be seen, but Sony Pictures is no doubt hoping that his presence will have a positive impact on the reboot’s box office performance, especially after The Amazing Spider-Man franchise failed to meet the studio’s financial targets. That’s not to say those films didn’t make a healthy sum of money, because they did, but it wasn’t quite enough to get a third entry off the ground.
With the next trailer for Spider-Man: Homecoming likely attached to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, expect to see even more from the Jon Watts-directed reboot very soon. Until then, however, take a look at the new action figures below and let us know what you think of them.
