The upcoming Venom is intended to be the first installment of Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters, and in this ambitious venture, it’s clear that Eddie Brock’s standalone debut will be taking some inspiration from its forebears. Namely, just as the MCU and Warner’s MonsterVerse have done before it, the new Ruben Fleischer-helmed flick will be teasing what’s to come in a couple of post-credits sequences.
Fleischer practically confirmed as such a couple of weeks ago, and now MCU Cosmic is reporting that they know the content of these two bonus sequences. The first and more interesting of these segments allegedly sees Eddie pay Cletus Kasady (Woody Harrelson) a visit at San Quentin prison. Apparently, Cletus asks Eddie if he wants to hear about him being a serial killer, and specifically, if he “wants to hear the carnage.” This choice of words seems especially telling in light of the persistent speculation that this new film will be setting up Carnage as a future villain in the series.
The second post-credits sequence is said to provide the exposition, “Meanwhile, in another Spider-Verse…” before transitioning into a preview of that other Sony superhero movie planned for release this year, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. While it doesn’t look like Venom is going to deliver the showdown with Spidey that many fans crave (including Fleischer himself), viewers can at least take comfort in knowing that a film that’s practically bursting at the seams with web-slingers is just around the corner.
With star Tom Hardy currently signed on to appear in two more movies after this one, it only figures that this first effort would lay the groundwork for Eddie’s next outing. Let’s just hope we’ll still want a second installment from the series after Venom hits theaters on October 5th, followed by Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse on December 14th.
