Finally, our first proper look at The Incredibles 2 is upon us. Though Disney dropped a fun teaser for Pixar’s animated superhero sequel back in December, it didn’t give us a feel for the film as a whole. Tonight, however, a preview of the movie will be released during the Winter Olympics coverage on NBC.
In anticipation of that, the studio’s served up another teaser poster for the film. Following on from the last one, it too features a laundry motif. This time, however, it sees Bob Parr – well, his midriff – ironing his Mr. Incredible super-suit. “Suit up,” reads the caption in the bottom left-hand corner, reminding us of the premise of the sequel.
As 2004’s The Incredibles focused on Bob returning to active superhero duty and his wife Helen keeping things together at home, the sequel will swap that dynamic around. This time, Helen will head out of the house to resume her crime-fighting career as Bob takes over her role looking after the kids and the housework at home. Hence why he’s taking care of the laundry in this poster (which can be seen in the gallery below along with a few others).
Yesterday also saw a second, more specific, synopsis for the film debut, following on from the first one which arrived last month. This write-up reveals that Helen’s return as Elastigirl is due to a campaign to make supers legal again (after they were outlawed at the beginning of the first film).
In “Incredibles 2,” Helen (voice of Holly Hunter) is called on to lead a campaign to bring Supers back, while Bob (voice of Craig T. Nelson) navigates the day-to-day heroics of “normal” life at home with Violet (voice of Sarah Vowell), Dash (voice of Huck Milner) and baby Jack-Jack—whose superpowers are about to be discovered. Their mission is derailed, however, when a new villain emerges with a brilliant and dangerous plot that threatens everything. But the Parrs don’t shy away from a challenge, especially with Frozone (voice of Samuel L. Jackson) by their side. That’s what makes this family so Incredible.
It’s likely that this campaign will be spearheaded by Winston and Evelyn Deavor (Bob Odenkirk and Catherine Keener), a brother and sister business team who run a successful PR company. Who the mystery villain mentioned here is is still unknown, but can they match up to Syndrome from the first movie? We’ll find out when The Incredibles 2 blasts into cinemas on June 15th.
