The New Mutants actress Maisie Williams spoke very candidly about the situation regarding her knowledge on the status of the film based on the popular X-Men spinoff comic recently.
The final season of Game of Thrones is right around the corner and Williams’ tenure as Arya Stark is coming to a close. But one thing has fans more intrigued than how it all ends for everyone’s favorite girl with no name. The people want to know what the heck is going on with The New Mutants.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Williams discussed several things, including the troubled horror X-Men experiment, which has wrapped principal photography but is still waiting to undergo reshoots. Much like her Game of Thrones character, the actress’ response was very blunt when the subject was broached.
“Who knows when the f**k that’s gonna come out,” she says. “Hopefully this interview will make everyone hurry up a little bit!”
Williams also pointed out that when she recently spoke to a co-star of hers from The New Mutants, he was as clueless as she was. That person being Charlie Heaton from Netflix’s Stranger Things, which has a new season on the way this July.
It’s no secret that the X-Men franchise has been on life support in recent years and with the Fox merger finally going through, some believe this live-action mutant legacy is on its way out. Because of this and the constant changes in release dates, many fans are worried about when and if they’ll ever see the motion picture.
There’ve even been rumors that it won’t even grace the big screen. Rumblings have identified Hulu as a possible home for the troubled X-Men film or the highly anticipated Disney Plus might be a nice fit. And then there’s obviously the third choice, which is that it never sees the light of day.
As of right now, there’s no release date for The New Mutants and its future is in question. In the meantime, fans can get their X-Men fix on June 7th with Dark Phoenix and can look forward to seeing Williams in the final season of Game of Thrones on HBO when it premieres on April 10th.
