Aside from the first image released at last year’s Comic-Con, Superman has been completely absent from Justice League marketing materials. He was nowhere to be seen in the trailer or character posters we got a few weeks back, and while we know that Henry Cavill will definitely return as the Man of Steel, the details of his resurrection are being kept a secret.
As you’ll no doubt recall, Superman met his maker at the hands of Doomsday in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, but his return was teased at the end of the movie when the dirt on his coffin appeared to start floating in the air. Many fans believe that he’ll come back wearing the black suit and possibly under the control of Darkseid/Steppenwolf, but if promo images like the one below are to be believed, he’ll still be sporting his classic look.
It is, of course, possible that these posters are simply being used as placeholders to remind casual viewers that Superman will be joining Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg, and the Flash, but we more than likely won’t find out what’s next for him unless Warner Bros. decides to put the iconic hero in future promo material.
As great as that would be, it’s also hard not to hope that studio resists and keeps his return a secret. After all, they were widely criticized for showing off Doomsday too soon in the marketing campaign for BvS and keeping Superman’s role in Justice League under wraps will give fans and regular moviegoers alike yet another reason to head to theatres this November.
With Comic-Con quickly approaching, we may learn more about Superman’s role in the film there, but until then, feast your eyes on the new poster below and let us know how you think the Big Blue Boy Scout will factor into things when he makes his return.
